watchOS 9 health software leverages nighttime wrist temperature data sampled every five seconds (detecting temperature changes as subtle as 0.1°C) to calculate baseline temperature shifts, identify biphasic patterns indicating retrospective ovulation, and provide improved cycle predictions.

High-g accelerometer hardware

Next-generation accelerometer capable of measuring extreme acceleration forces up to 256 g's, with motion sampling up to 3,000 times per second (4x faster than previous generations).

High dynamic range gyroscope hardware

Upgraded 3-axis gyroscope paired with the high-g accelerometer to measure rapid changes in angular velocity during vehicular collisions.

Crash Detection safety system

Fuses hardware data from the new 256g accelerometer, HDR gyroscope, barometer (sensing cabin pressure shifts from airbag deployment), microphone (acoustic crash noise), and GPS (sudden deceleration), processed by an advanced sensor fusion algorithm trained on over 1 million hours of real-world driving and crash data to automatically notify emergency services and contacts if the user is unresponsive after a severe car crash.

Low Power Mode

watchOS 9 software power state introduced alongside Series 8, extending battery endurance up to 36 hours with an iPhone present by disabling Always-On display, background heart rate/blood oxygen readings, and heart rate notifications while keeping activity tracking and safety detection active.

Titanium Edition casing
